Wooden File
Cabinets
----------------------------------------------------------------
You can
choose between lots of kinds of file cabinets: the cheaper ones
are made from particleboard, and sometimes need to be assembled
by the buyer. The traditional filing systems are made out of
metal, and usually have an austere, grey corporate feel. And
there are the wooden file cabinets that are
the most popular nowadays.
The
reason for this is that combine the sturdiness of metal with
the warm feeling and versatility of wood. The best about
cabinets made from wood is that these will match the decoration
of your office: therefore a solid cherry, pine or oak filing
cabinet may be the best choice for you. These cases have a
warm, attractive style, without any compromise on
functionality.
There
are a lot of things to think of before buying wooden file
cabinets for you office, or your home. The first step is to
decide on how much you want to spend on this purpose. The
reason for this is that the price range is very wide: there are
relatively cheap, simple cabinets, but if you prefer file
cabinets with a load of extra features that make your life
easier, you can have that too. Setting a budget will narrow
your potential options, so you can decide easier on what is the
most suitable for you.
Then
there is the question whether you need a vertical or lateral
file cabinet? The earliest wooden file cabinets were vertical,
but there are a lot of reasons to buy a lateral file cabinet.
These can store a lot of paperwork without taking up a lot of
room. In the lateral file cabinet files are placed side by
side, so you don't have to pull the drawer far out to reach the
files from the back. Because of this lateral file cabinets are
more suitable for offices where place is
limited.
You
usually have a choice about a combination of shallow and deep
file drawers. Vertical filing cabinets are manufactured in two,
three, four, and five drawer versions in depths of 25, 26 1/2,
and 28 inches. Lateral file cabinets are typically 20 inches
deep and manufactured in 30, 36, and 42 inch widths and 2, 3,
4, and 5 drawer versions.
After
deciding on the system, you must focus on extra features. If
you want to use your file cabinet at home, then there is no
need for very much: a simple cabinet with a suitable
combination of drawers will do. But if you have a busy office,
where each drawer will be opened hundreds of times a day, and
you want these cabinets last decades, then you must take a look
at the extra features.
